Frequently Asked Questions:

How will the classes be structured with children aged 6–11 learning together?

Our camps are designed to cater for children of all musical abilities between the ages of 6 and 11. Although the children learn together throughout the day, all teaching is differentiated to ensure every child is appropriately challenged and supported.

Our lessons are delivered using the XYZ Primary Spiral Curriculum, our own in-house curriculum that revisits musical concepts at increasing levels of complexity. This means children are able to learn the same musical ideas at a level appropriate to their age, confidence and experience.

Whether your child is a complete beginner or already plays an instrument, our tutors will adapt activities and provide extension challenges where appropriate so that every child leaves having made genuine musical progress.

What instruments will the pupils learn?

Throughout the week, children will experience a wide range of instruments, including:

  • Ukulele
  • Guitar
  • Keyboard
  • Drum Kit
  • Djembe
  • Xylophone and classroom percussion
  • Singing and vocal performance

One of the aims of the camp is to expose children to a variety of instruments, allowing them to discover new musical interests while developing confidence across multiple areas of music.

What will they be taught about the instruments, and what will they get to play?

Children will be introduced to the fundamentals of each instrument, with teaching adapted to suit their individual level of ability.

Throughout the week they will learn:

  • Correct playing technique
  • Basic rhythm and timing
  • Instrument-specific skills
  • How to play as part of an ensemble
  • Musical listening and communication skills
  • Performance confidence

Using the XYZ in-house curriculum, tutors will provide additional learning activities and extension work for children who progress quickly or already have previous musical experience.

Most importantly, children won’t simply be learning exercises. They’ll be learning real songs, rhythms and musical pieces that they can perform together throughout the week.

How is each day structured?

Each day follows a familiar structure to provide routine and consistency, while the musical activities themselves change each day to keep the experience fresh, engaging and exciting.
