General manager | Drum Tutor | Classroom Specialist
Richard Wainwright
‘I have been playing the drums since the age of 13, and what began as a personal passion has grown into a long-standing career in music education. After completing my studies and achieving Grade 8 with Distinction, I naturally progressed into teaching—something I have now been doing for over a decade at XYZ Music Academy.
Over the years, I have worked with hundreds of students of all ages and abilities, from young beginners to adult learners, across a wide range of settings. My experience includes one-to-one tuition, group classes, shared lessons, school partnerships, and large-scale percussion workshops. I have guided many students through their graded exams with excellent results, as well as preparing them for live performances, including our annual summer concerts. Building confidence, creativity, and a genuine enjoyment of music remains at the heart of my teaching approach.
In addition to instrumental tuition, I also teach classroom music lessons, supporting students in developing a broader understanding of music as a subject. This allows me to nurture not only practical skills, but also listening, creativity, and musical awareness in a more holistic way.
Alongside teaching, I now serve as General Manager at XYZ Music Academy, reflecting my long-term commitment to the academy and its community. In this role, I contribute to the development of teaching programmes, support and mentor other tutors, and help shape a positive and inspiring learning environment for all students.
Earlier in my career, I was an active performing musician in an originals band, gaining valuable live experience at well-known London venues such as The Garage, The Electric Ballroom, and KOKO. While my focus has since shifted toward teaching, leadership, and family life, these experiences continue to inform my approach—allowing me to offer students real-world insight into performance and musicianship.
I am passionate about helping every student reach their full potential—whether that means achieving exam success, performing with confidence, or simply enjoying the process of making music.’
