Double Bass Drumming Crash Course | Masterclass

What’s better than one bass drum? Two! This half term we’re offering our first ever all day double bass drum workshop. For those who like heavy, energetic or progressive music, double bass drumming is an amazing tool for opening up new rhythmic possibilities and take your expression to a more exciting level. 

Whether you’re a metal-head who wants to learn how to create and perform the music you enjoy listening to, or you’re simply interested in challenging your ability and pushing the boundaries of your playing towards more complex rhythmic possibilities, this course is designed to give you an entrance into the world of double bass drumming and deliver a comprehensive system for developing your technique to push yourself further in the future.

Topics covered on the day will be:

• Strengthening individual pedal ability
• 16th note foot pedal stamina
• Timing and back beat variations over 16th note and triplet bass drum lines
• Hand and feet coordination relating to double bass drumming – unison and alternating
• Broken rhythms, triplets and odd meter combinations
• Basic blast beat concepts
• Double bass drum fill vocabulary
• Drills for pushing speed

This course has been designed to be an all round overhaul for pedal work and will leave you with information and exercises you need to progress from a novice level towards achieving your goals with speed, vocabulary and fluency. Whether you want to play metal, progressive or fusion, this course can help you get there.

Ability level – No previous double bass drumming needed, just an intermediate general technical and theory ability (Approx grade 3 level and above).
